The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced the names of approximately 16,000 Semifinalists in the 65th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These three students at A-TECH qualified as Semifinalists by taking the October 2018 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) during their junior year. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the high-scoring entrants in each state. The number of Semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors and represent the highest scoring entrants in the state of Nevada.
This year A-TECH has three students who have qualified as a Semifinalist in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program. If you see these students please feel free to congratulate them on their outstanding efforts and encourage their pursuit of academic excellence.
Congratulations to A-TECH’s 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalists
These Academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the completion for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the completion.
The Semifinalists and their high school must submit a detailed scholarship application, in which they provide information about the Semifinalist’s academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received. A Semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT or ACT scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test.
We wish each of the Semifinalists the best as they continue through the 2020 NMSC competition through October 2019 for the status of Finalist in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Corporation Competition!
Congratulations to Joanna Bieda and Kamieko Goines who were appointed as youth legislators to their respective Nevada Senatorial Districts, 4 and 5. These young women have been selected to represent 27,000-42,000 youths in their Districts, draft legislation, and push forth the type of productive dialogue those they represent wish to hear. Sworn in to office, they are working with their district Senators and Assemblymen as well as collaborating with our District Youth Advisory Council to discuss issues and concerns affecting the youth within their community and within our state. They also provide support for Youth Legislators as they prepare for and conduct District Youth Advisory Council and town hall meetings, present testimony before a public body, and develop ideas for legislation to present to the Legislature for consideration. Congratulations on this outstanding achievement!

A-TECH Mock Trial – Nationals Results
CONGRATULATIONS to Jason Park, who was named one of only ten Outstanding Attorneys in the nation at Nationals!
A-TECH’s Purple Team placed 32nd, but was just one ballot away from placing 21st. It is amazing what a difference just one ballot can make in the final standings!
Mrs. Bouchard is VERY proud of our Purple Team members, as they competed against 45 other State Champion Teams from across the nation.
KUDOS to these amazing kids and their perseverance, as they attended nearly daily Mock Trial preparation sessions, while concurrently completing assignments and projects for their highly-challenging A-TECH classes, not to mention studying and taking their many AP exams.
The team worked tirelessly and all team members have been making up their AP Exams, as well as their semester exams, this week. (Thank you, Mr. Gokul, for scheduling all of their make-up AP exams!)
Thanks to those who have supported our Mock Trial Team, this year! We sincerely appreciate you!!!
